Brief on StudyTrust Sponsored Bursaries 

StudyTrust is an educational trust and charitable organisation that was created in 1974 to link students with their learning capacity and determination. StudyTrust provide guidance and support to help college students thrive academically and personally and help young people receive higher education, gain professional skills and find jobs.

 The types of Bursaries Sponsored by StudyTrust

StudyTrust offers three types of bursary programmes sponsored by various blue-chip South African companies and international companies:

  •  Bursaries are available for Matric students planning to pursue a diploma qualification in any field of study.
  •  Bursaries are available for Matric students planning to pursue a degree in any field of study.
  •  Bursaries are available for students currently enrolled in undergraduate studies in the following fields:

These are the undergraduate fields

  • Accounting
  • Auditing
  • Economics
  • Finance
  • Business Management Studies
  • Mathematics
  • Statistics
  • Actuarial Science
  • Computer Science
  • Information Technology
  • Hospitality, Leisure, Recreation and Tourism
  • Aeronautical Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mining Engineering
  • Manufacturing Engineering

StudyTrust Sponsored Bursaries covers the following expenses

  • tuition
  • designated books
  • study materials
  • lodging or equivalent private accommodation
  • meals
  • living allowance
  •  transportation
  •  personal computers.

StudyTrust Sponsored Bursaries Requirements for Applicants

Applying students must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying

Matric students intending to study for a diploma:

  • South African citizens
  • Currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • Strong academic potential
  • Intending to study full-time to obtain a diploma
  • Intending to study at a recognized public university in South Africa
  • Reaching the minimum GPA Matric 50%
  • English HL At least 60% or English FAL 70% Matric
  • Matric Mathematics (non-mathematical literacy) at least 70%
  • Attend school courses (Kutlwanong Promaths, life mathematics, coding plan, TRAC, Protec, etc.)

Matric students intending to study towards a degree:

  • South African citizen
  • Currently in Matric OR completed Matric
  • Strong academic potential
  • Intend on studying full time towards a degree qualification
  • Intend on studying at a recognised public University within South Africa
  • Achieved a minimum overall average of 60% in Matric
  • Achieved a minimum result of 60% for English HL OR 70% for English FAL in Matric
  • Achieved a minimum result of 70% for Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy) in Matric
  • Participated in school-based programmes (Kutlwanong Pro-maths, Living Maths, Coding initiatives, TRAC, Protec, etc.)

2nd and 3rd year tertiary students:

  • South African citizen
  • Completed Matric
  • Strong academic potential
  • Studying full time within one of the aforementioned fields of study
  • Studying at a recognized tertiary institute within South Africa
  • In your 2nd or 3rd year of undergraduate studies
  • Achieved a minimum overall average of 55%
  • Participating in committees and outreach projects
  • Leadership skills
  • Proven financial need

  • Applicants should note that application are done online

  • Fill out the information provided
  • After add the required documents needed
  • submit your application through the required given by StudyTrust Sponsored Bursaries

Documents needed from Applicants

Matric students (intending to study towards a diploma/ degree)

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric latest results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate, if completed Matric and currently on a gap year (certified copy)
  • Proof of application at a tertiary institute
  • Motivational letter in support of your bursary application (why you should be selected to receive a bursary)

2nd and 3rd year students:

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate (certified copy)
  • Full tertiary academic record (certified copy)
  • Motivational letter in support of your bursary application (why you should be selected to receive a bursary)

StudyTrust Sponsored Bursaries closing date

The closing date for StudyTrust Sponsored Bursaries is on 30 September. Note that applications submitted after this date will not be accepted – please apply before the closing date to ensure your application is considered.
