About South African Nursery Association

The South African Nursery Association (SANA) was established in 1947 as a non-profit organization. SANA’s main objective is to represent the interests of the green nursery industry. SANA now also represents the following related associations: ABSTA (Alliance, Bulb and Seed Trade Association), GCA (Garden Center Association) and BPGA (Bedding Growers Association).

The main objectives of some companies include: shaping the professional image of the national horticultural industry, establishing national communication channels with other nursery companies and maintaining contact with government departments on industrial and environmental issues.

(SANA) scholarship program is for students seeking degrees in the fields of horticulture and landscaping and agricultural research.

Applicants will have an interview with a SANA representative in March 2023.

 Eligibility requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum admission criteria before applying (note that if you do not meet all requirements, your application will not be considered):

  • South African Citizens
  • Complete Matric
  • Study in one of the above fields of study
  • Horticultural students: must pass and complete at least 3 freshman subjects
  • Horticulture students: must achieve at least 60 % of each subject
  • Gardening and agriculture students: must complete the first year of study and have a grade of at least 60 in each subject%
  • PhD, Masters and BTech students can apply, but their applications will be reviewed according to the specific circumstances.

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Full academic results record (on tertiary letterhead)
  • October or November academic results
  • Tertiary institution’s banking details
  • Proof of tertiary registration (on tertiary letterhead)
  • A completed SANA Student Membership Form (.pdf)
  • Landscaping and Agriculture students must also include a motivational letter (a minimum of 150 words)
