The South African Federation of the Iron, Steel and Engineering Industry (SEIFSA) was established in Bloemfontein in 1941 and Cape Town in 1942 and is part of the national umbrella organization of the South African Federation of Engineering and Metallurgical Associations (SAFEMA).

SEIFSA is a national federation of employers representing the engineering and metal industries. For the past 70 years, the company has supported employers’ associations and promoted policies to improve the business environment for its members.

SEIFSA’s primary mission is to become the most respected advocate in the South African metal and engineering industries so they can develop promising innovative businesses and work with stakeholders for the best interests of the country. Scholarship

SEIFSA is for undergraduate engineering students with excellent academic performance. Scholarships will be awarded to the following research fields:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Metallurgical Engineering
  • Material Science

More information on the bursary program-

Training coverage Scholarship will only pay for tuition ( All or part); all other expenses, including prescribed textbooks, office supplies, accommodation, meals and transportation expenses are not included.

After students graduate, they should work in the steel manufacturing and engineering department of a company in South Africa. The service contract period is 6 months for the funds received each year.

The recipients were selected based on academic performance. The shortlisted candidates will be contacted before the end of December and the final applicant will be notified of their application results.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • South African citizen
  • 35 years old or younger
  • Completed Matric OR currently in Matric
  • Achieved a minimum overall average of 75% for Matric (including Mathematics and Science)
  • Studying or intend on studying full-time within one of the aforementioned fields of study (NOT for correspondence courses)
  • Studying or registered to study at a recognised University or University of Technology in South Africa
  • Passed your tertiary institutions standard aptitude test (or similar)
  • *Preference will be given to students from designated groups, as well as employees of SEIFSA member companies and dependents

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BURSARY

You are strongly advised to also download and agree to the SEIFSA Bursary T&C’s (.pdf) before applying.
Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Colour photo (passport size)
  • Matric results (certified copy)
  • Latest academic results transcript (certified copy)
  • Proof of registration or proof of acceptance at your selected tertiary institution
  • Testimonial from someone of authority (school or employer)
  • Motivational letter explaining why you chose your field of study or career path and how you expect to make a positive contribution to society, if currently in Matric (maximum 1 page)
  • Summary of your results from previous year, if currently in your 2nd to 4th year of tertiary studies
  • Proof of parents income (latest payslips)
  • Medical declaration, if required for your field of study
