About SAICE

Founded in 1903, the South African Society of Civil Engineering (SAICE) is an association with approximately 8,000 members, including not only civil engineers, but also technical experts and technicians.

The institute was originally established as the Cape Civil Engineers Society (CSCE), but was later renamed the South African Society of Civil Engineers (SASCE) in 1910, and then renamed the South African Society of Civil Engineers (Seth) in 1948.

SAICE members plan, provide and maintain all the infrastructure used in the daily activities of modern society. The

SPEBS (SAICE Sponsored Engineering Scholarship Program) scholarship program was established in 1992 and is managed by the South African School of Civil Engineering to help students who are financially worthy of learning. The

scholarship will be awarded to students who are studying civil engineering or a national diploma. The current maximum amount of

scholarships per student / semester is R6,500; This funding is designed to help students pay for enrollment fees, tuition fees, and designated books.

Successful candidates will receive feedback in March or September, at which time they will be asked to provide a certified registration certificate.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • South African citizen
  • Studying towards a Civil Engineering qualification (Degree or National Diploma)
  • Passed and completed all previous subjects
  • Degree students: must have passed first year exams – the bursary will sponsor second, third and fourth year students
  • National Diploma students: must have passed S1/ first level exams – the bursary will sponsor S2, S3 and S4 students
  • Studying at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa
  • Proven financial need
  • Good academic record

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):

  • ID document (certified copy of)
  • Full tertiary academic record to date (certified copy of)

*Proof of tertiary registration (certified copy) will be required by successful applicants – bursary candidates will be notified in March and September annually.
