About PSA

The Public Servants Association of South Africa or PSA is the largest public service alliance designed to protect and promote the rights of its members. It was established in July 1920 and has a history of public assistance for nearly a century, representing more than 230,000 public officials and employees. In 2007, social responsibility became a core goal of PSA, which helped many communities. PSA’s social responsibilities include project empowerment, joint ventures and charitable donations.

Stiglingh Memorial Scholarship has been provided by former PSA member Mr. JH Stiglingh since 1993 for students who wish to continue their studies in the fields of medicine or natural sciences. The scholarship is awarded annually to civil servants and/or PSA members and their dependent children, who are PSA employees or PSA members, at least twelve months before the deadline for the scholarship application year.

The Stiglingh Memorial Scholarship each has a minimum of R3,000 and a maximum of R10,000, depending on the availability of funds.

Bursary Requirements and Eligibility

  • Undergraduate or post-graduate Full-time or part-time students of Natural Sciences and Medicine fields from second year of study at an accredited South African University
  • Public servants and/or PSA members for at least 12 months and their dependents are given preference

How to Apply and Application Details

To start the application, send the following documents:

  • Application letter
  • Recent curriculum vitae
  • Certified copies of academic records and results
  • Proof of membership of the PSA, if applicable

Complete application documents must be submitted to the Director, Postgraduate Funding Office, UCT at Postgraduate Centre and Funding Office, Upper Level Otto Beit Building University Avenue North
Upper Campus University of Cape Town.

Closing Date

 15 October every year Universities submit the applications from candidates in order of preference as soon as possible after the closing date, but not later than 15 February to the PSA.
