About Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa

The history of the Pharmaceutical Association of South Africa (PSSA) dates back to 1885, when a team of seven pharmacists met in King Williamstown.

After the meeting, branch associations were established across the country to develop various medical societies. However, it was not until 1946 that the Pharmaceutical Association of South Africa (PPSA) was established, which was the result of the merger of all the societies.

Today, PSSA’s vision and mission is to become a national leader in the pharmaceutical profession and to support the pharmaceutical profession through better drug use and better patient care.

The Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (FPE) offers scholarships to undergraduate and graduate pharmacy students each year. The scholarship is administered by the Pharmaceutical Association of South Africa (PSSA). 4,444 undergraduate scholarships will be awarded to BPharm pharmacy students in the second year of study or beyond. Grants are awarded per academic year at a time; a new application must be submitted each year to renew the grant.

Graduate scholarships are applicable to master’s and doctoral students pursuing disciplines related to pharmacy. Grants are awarded per academic year at a time; A new application must be submitted each year to renew the grant.
