About NSFAS

The National Student Financial Assistance Program (NSFAS) is the South African government’s student financial assistance program, which provides financial aid to undergraduate students to help them pay for higher education after high school. It is funded by the Ministry of Higher Education and Training. The program also manages scholarships such as the Funza Lushaka Teacher Scholarship (for students who wish to obtain teaching qualifications), the DHET Disability Scholarship and other scholarships from the Departmental Education and Training Agency (SETA). The

National Student Financial Assistance Program was established in 1996 and replaced the 1999 South African Higher Education Fund (TEFSA). The TEFSA program is a non-profit company that has managed and managed NSFAS from its establishment to 2000. In 1999, TEFSA was transformed into a statutory body called NSFAS. The plan is supported by more than R30 billion (2018) from the Ministry of Higher Education and Training, in addition to local and international donations. The scholarship includes tuition, accommodation, per diem and per diem for “full-time” students, while “part-time” students only pay tuition.

The vision of NSFAS is to provide financial aid to students from poor and working class families to study at public universities and TVET colleges.

On December 16, 2017, former President Jacob Zuma announced that the South African government “will provide free and fully subsidized higher education and training for poor and working-class South African students in phases.” This funding will be carried out in stages over 5 years, which will result in the establishment of the scholarship program of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).

Step 3. Type in the received OTP to continue with the signing of the agreement

When finished, you will receive a notification on the screen that the Terms and Conditions have been submitted. This means you have successfully signed your NSFAS bursary agreement. Your parent or legal guardian should sign for you if you are under the age of 18
