About Maize Trust
The Maize Trust, established in 1998, was established after the closure of the Corn Council, with the main aim of promoting the corn industry in South Africa.
The Trust provides financial support to the corn industry, organizations and institutions that conduct production and market related research programs.
The Trust also provides funds for the assimilation and dissemination of market information, as well as improved market access for the benefit of the corn industry.
Maize Trust will award awards to areas related to the South African agriculture and corn industry. Graduate degrees will be awarded specifically in the following fields of study (master’s and doctoral studies only):
- Agricultural economics
- Agricultural meteorology
- Agricultural engineering
- Agronomy
- Human sciences, plant varieties
- Plant physiology
- Plant biochemistry
- Pathology Plant
- Entomology
- Plant pathology
- Pasture science
- Food science (related to horticulture)
- Animal science
- Weed science
- Soil science
- Soil microbiology
- Molecular biology
- Biometrics
One scholarship the value of R 78,334 per year will be awarded to master’s students (for 2 years) and R 94,817 per year for doctoral students (for 3 years). Investment capital should be used to offset the cost of tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, living expenses, and other study materials.
Once graduated, students must work in the South African maize sector, for a period equivalent to the time received.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to meet all requirements will result in your application being rejected). ):
- South African citizen
- Matric completed
- Studying full-time in one of the aforementioned fields of study (Masters or PhD only)
- Studying at an accredited university in South Africa
- Intend to undertake a thesis on a subject approved by the Maize Trust
- Willing to work in the South African corn industry upon completion of school
