About Globeleq Renewable Energy Scholarship
Founded in 2002, Globeleq is a globally operating energy company and a leader in the energy industry in emerging markets. The company develops energy projects in the Americas and Africa through the development of the electric energy sector.
Globeleq South Africa has been operating in the country since 2012 and is a subsidiary of Globeleq. Globeleq South Africa Management Services is responsible for the management of 3 energy production utility projects in the renewable energy sector in South Africa; including Droogfontein Solar Power; from Aar Solar Power and Jeffreys Bay wind farms. These projects are owned by partnerships with Eskom, the South African government and other private sector developers, local communities, builders, lenders, investors and suppliers.
Globeleq South Africa will be awarding 3 types of scholarships:
1) Scarce Skills scholarship: aimed at students who reside in the Northern Cape or Eastern Cape and intend to study in the fields of Education, Agriculture or Nursing (Degree/ Certificate).
2) Engineering scholarship: aimed at Mechatronic Engineering or Electrical Engineering (BTech/ National Diploma) students at selected tertiary institutes.
3) Communities scholarship: aimed at students who reside within a 50km radius in which Globeleq operates, to study in ANY field (Degree/ Certificate).
Scholarship coverage will be determined based on student needs and scholarship budget, but generally includes the following fees: tuition, tuition, prescribed textbooks and study materials, accommodation, meals, and living expenses.
Fellows can participate in a paid internship program, which includes a comprehensive introduction to the organization, technical and internal training and organization of the headquarters.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in a telephone interview in December 2023. Students entering the final consideration stage of the award will be interviewed in January 2023. A final decision will be made and students will be notified of the results before March 2023.
After graduation, students may be required to participate in 12 months of service obligations.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
Scarce Skills scholarship:
- South African citizen
- Reside within the Northern Cape or Eastern Cape
- Currently in Matric OR have completed Matric
- Will be entering your 1st year or higher in 2023
- Registering to study towards a degree or certificate in one of the following fields: Education/ Agriculture/ Nursing
- Registering to study at a recognised tertiary institute in South Africa in 2023
Engineering scholarship:
- South African citizen
- Completed Matric
- Studying towards a Mechatronic Engineering or Electrical Engineering qualification (BTech/ National Diploma)
- In your 2nd year or higher in 2023 (excluding bridging courses or extended programmes)
- Studying at one of the followin tertiary institutes: University of Johannesburg/ Walter Sisulu University/ Cape Peninsula University of Technology/ Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University/ Durban University of Technology/ Central University of Technology/ Vaal University of Technology/ Mangosuthu University of Technology/ Tshwane University of Technology
- Interested in renewable energy
Communities scholarship:
- South African citizen
- Reside within a 50km radius of one of the following places: Aries Solar Power/ De Aar Solar Power/ Droogfontein Solar Power/ Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm/ Klipheuwel Wind Farm/ Konkoonsies Solar Power/ Soutpan Solar Power
- Will be entering your 1st year or higher in 2023
- Registering to study towards a degree or certificate in ANY field of study
- Registering to study at a recognised tertiary institute in South Africa in 2023

- ID document (certified copy)
- Grade 11 final results AND Matric latest results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
- Proof of provisional acceptance, if applicable
- Matric certificate AND latest academic transcript, if at tertiary level (certified copy)
- Proof of university registration, if currently studying
- Curriculum Vitae
- Statement explaining why you chose your particular field of study and how you plan to use your qualification after graduation (1 page)
- Recommendation letter from someone who can attest to your personal character and/or your academic performance, with their contact details, NOT a family member or friend (1 page)
- Parents/ guardians proof of income. (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed)
