About Department of Mineral Resources
The Ministry of Mineral Resources (DMR) was established in 2009 and is a department of the National Government of South Africa. In fact, the history of the department dates back to the Ministry of Mines in the 1890s.
DMR is responsible for overseeing the mining industry and mineral resources in South Africa. They currently employ more than 1,000 employees.
DMR is based in Pretoria and also has regions in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Kimberley, Polokwane, Springbok, Welkom, Mthatha, Klerksdorp and eMalahleni Office.
The Department of Mineral Resources Scholarship Program is only available to female students in rural areas who plan to study in one of the following mining-related fields:
- Chemical Engineering (Mineral Processing)
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
- Metallurgical Engineering (Excavation)
- Mining Engineering
- Mining Study
- Geology
- Health and Environmental Management
Finalists will be contacted no later than January 17, 2023; If you have not received any feedback, please do not apply Success.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum admission criteria prior to submitting the application (note that if you do not meet all the requirements, your application will not be considered):
- South African Citizen
- Female
- Currently on Matric o has completed Matric
- Achieved a minimum Level 6 / HG Symbol “B” for Science and Mathematics
- Studying or intending to study full time (undergraduate studies only) in one of the above fields of study
- Studying or planning to study in A South African University or university of science and technology
- From a former impoverished environment
- From rural areas
- Have financial need
- Not employed
* Priority will be given to first grade students
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BURSARY
Download and complete the Dept of Mineral Resources Bursary Application Form (.pdf)
Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):
- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric latest results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
- Matric certificate, if completed Matric (certified copy)
- Latest academic transcript, if at tertiary level (certified copy)
- Proof of registration/ letter of acceptance from a university (certified copy)
- Parents/ guardians ID documents (certified copies)
- Parents/ guardians death certificate, if deceased (certified copy)
- Affidavit if you do not know your parents whereabouts
- Parents/ guardians proof of employment (payslip if employed/ affidavit if unemployed)
- Proof of residence (utility bill/ sworn affidavit/ stamped letter from a tribal authority) (certified copy)
- Motivational letter
