BBD Bursary South Africa 2023-2024
BBD was formed in 1984 by 3 developers: Tom Budge, Sandra Barone and Ralf Dominick. The company’s services and expertise include the following areas: system integration, user experience design, mobile application services, software development, IT and development consulting, as well as maintenance and support.
The company also has an internal R&D team that provides guidance, training and insights on the latest technological frameworks, trends and tools. In the past 30 years,
BBD has been a market leader in providing customized application design and software development solutions. The company has helped major banks, insurance companies, telecommunications companies and government agencies put their systems online. Some of the company’s major clients include: Alexander Forbes, Absa, Nedbank, Standard Bank, African Bank, Discovery, Momentum, Old Mutual, Liberty, Vodacom, and MultiChoice.
This IT company currently has 700 employees, including application designers, systems architects, software engineers, technology trend enthusiasts, and digital strategists. BBD is based in Johannesburg, but also has offices in Cape Town, Pretoria, India and Bulgaria. The
BBD scholarship is for students who wish to study and pursue a career in the field of software development. When choosing the right candidate, financial needs and academic performance will be considered.
The scholarship will cover the following IT-related degrees (BCom / BEng / BIS / BSc, at the Bachelor/Honours/Master/PhD level):
- Computer and Software Engineering
- Computer Science
- Computer Science
- Information Technology
The scholarship will cover university tuition and each Monthly allowance for living expenses and miscellaneous expenses.
In addition to financial rewards, students will also receive tutoring and access to project work. After students graduate, they can also get permanent jobs in BBD.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- South African citizen
- Completed Matric
- Studying or intend on studying towards an IT degree qualification in one of the aforementioned fields of study (Bachelors, Honours, Masters or Doctorate)
- Studying or intend on studying at a recognised University in South Africa
- Achieved a minimum overall average of 70%
- Passionate about creating and building software
- Good level of written and verbal communication
