Available Bursaries 2023-2024
It is recommended that students carefully plan their finances before applying for scholarships and verify that they meet basic requirements such as academic performance.
Each scholarship may have a different set of standards, so it is very important that students carefully read all the conditions and standards of the scholarship.
Unfortunately, the university cannot guarantee that any student will have enough financial aid to cover all study and living expenses.
Recommends that students carefully plan their finances before applying for scholarships and check if they meet basic requirements such as academic performance.
International students should not be dependent on fundraising at R.S.A. But before coming to Stellenbosch University, you should seek funding in your home country.
Please note: The current format of the Graduate Merit Scholarship Program cancels the award of 75 points for previous grades. The renewal will be completed in 2023 and will be phased out.
Graduate Support Scholarships
General Information
The allocation of funds depends on the situation. The amount of the Graduate Support Scholarships is not sufficient to cover all study expenses, and students must also apply for other scholarships and loans, and / or have supplemental funds available. After receiving the signed statement and completing the financial plan, the scholarship will be paid in March. Note that poor students are classified as really low family income students. Students facing financial problems due to lifestyle choices (housing, transportation, education for future generations) do not meet these conditions.
Eligibility
The Postgraduate Support Bursary is a resource for extremely financially needy students (SA citizens ONLY) registered with the University for postgraduate programmes a postgraduate diploma, an honours, Master’s or doctoral degree. This scheme is available to fulltime and part-time postgraduate students. Part-time students qualify for a smaller amount. It is awarded on extreme financial need and a recommendation by the study leader or promoter.
Financial need is determined by a means test that takes the following into consideration:
- Gross Family income of R 350 000
- Other bursaries received
- Family size
- Home Consumers’ Index
